Can I use a ceiling fan outside?
A ceiling fan can be also used outside, but you still need a ceiling to attach it to. So different porches and covered decks are just the perfect places to enjoy the small breeze generated by the ceiling fan.

But when you are buying a ceiling fan to install outside there are some things that you have to keep in mind. First of all, on the package of a ceiling fan you will find the description of the locations that are suitable for that particular fan. You should also find terms like “damp location” and “wet location” on the fans that can be used outside. When choosing a ceiling fan for outdoors than the ones indicated with “wet location” are designed for more severe conditions, but the ones with “damp conditions” can be also used outside but their durability in water is lower than for the firstly mentioned ones.

Secondly, make sure that the electrical systems are suitable for outdoor use and water cannot cause there any damage. If you live near the ocean or the sea, than you should take into consideration that the sun, pollution and the salty air will cause your ceiling fan to change its color at some point in time and there is not much that you could do about it.
