How to clean a textured ceiling?

I have textured ceilings with glitter sprayed in them. My problem is cleaning them. Feather dusters just leave the feathers sticking to the ceiling. Cloths and paper towels leave stuff stuck up there. Using a vacuum with an attached brush breaks the textured stuff off and hurts the eyes (I know where protective eye wear). How do people clean them? Painting over them without cleaning will cause a gray color I presume. The ceiling is worse in the kitchen where the ceiling fan is because we have a wood stove and the dust and dirt accumulate more above the fan.

there is no clean for them i know cause i have one, use a primer ( ask your paint store) for the first coat that will seal it and not any thing blead thru. i painted a celing in a bar that had not been pinted in 30 years it worked great. good luck
