How can I repair a crack in smooth ceiling (I also have ceiling heat)?

I have a bad crack in my living room ceiling - wall to wall. I also have ceiling heat, or some call it radiant heat....this is a smooth painted ceiling, no texture. How can I repair this, or what types of ceiling can be placed over this, due to the ceiling heat? Thank you for any advice you have.
