Internal wall removal

We have removed an internal wall in our house leaving not only a gap in the floorboards but a gap of the same area in the plastered victorian ceiling.Exposed are the many little wooden flat sticks, with a gap along the space. I was firstly wondering what these little flats sticks were called so that I could perhaps search to buy some more; secondly if I should find this type of flat sticks, would it be ok just to glue them together by laying them above the existing ones? (To fill the gap).
Regards...
