is there a specific tool for removeing popcorn ceilings?

all through our house are the cottage cheese or popcorn ceilings..we want to remove propcorn and have easy repaintable ceilings...so is there a tool specifically made for this job or just a large putty knife..

actually, what we use usually is just putty knife and some garbage bags for the waste.
