our cathedral ceiling makes the room seem too open, too big. is it okay to paint the ceiling the same color as the walls? will this make it seem cozier?

we have cathedral ceilings, and had the same concern. what we did to remedy this and add decor, was to add specialty trim work to the upper portions of two highest, opposite walls- in the tudor-style look, and darker complimentary paint than what was on the walls. this is trim like you see on the outside of houses sometimes) this made the ceilings seem more tolerable, and added a lovely decorative touch that you don't see everywhere. it really gives the illusion that it isn't all that high, after all, and we get tons of compliments on it!
