How can you make an old popcorn painted ceiling look newer? Can you cover it with sheet rock, if so how is that done? Please give some suggestions.
I have a very old ceiling that previous owners have covered with popcorn paint to cover some cracks. They did a messy job, when applying the paint. I don't want to install a drop ceiling but would like the ceiling to have a better appearance. Is it possible to nail or screw sheet rock into the existing ceiling? Are there any other options that you know of? Thank you.

Not an expert, but I would think you could screw sheetrock into the studs. Any contractor worth his salt should have the answer to this question.
My suggestion would be to remove the popcorn paint altogether. Though it is a tedious process, it can be done. For a high ceiling, it is recommended to use scaffolding to speed things up. You wouldn't waste time moving the ladder and it is safer in my opinion.

I just found out it isn't popcorn paint but a very messy plaster job. It would be very difficult to remove. Someone told me there may be something you can roll on a ceiling, then apply new paint to it. Have you ever heard of this?

You can certainly install new drywall over the existing ceiling. I would take a wide spackle blade and run it over the entire surface to knock down any high spots. You can then put new drywall over the old ceiling. I would advise you use at least 1/2" to 5/8".

we just spayed the ceiling with water and then scraped the popcorn right off. no problem.
