should I use 5/8 sheetrock on the ceiling and is it nessesary for special sheetrock in the bathroom

Answers:

From:

1/2" sheetrock is ok, if the joists are close enough. the question is do you think there will be warping or sagging. Can you block the edges? If not maybe you should go to 5/8" It is not nessecary to use special sheet rock in the bathroom. But, if you don't have an exhust fan or live in a hot muggy area like the South, you will probably want to use a special moisture resitant sheetrock. Otherwise mold and moisture may damage the walls.

From:

i think you should use 5/8. 5/8 is thicker and has more fire resistance. even though it is harder and heavier to put up, you will experience less problems if you put up 5/8. the sheetrock in the bathroom does not matter however, as long as you have an exhaust fan.
