I have low ceiling , will hard wood floors make the ceiling look lowere? alsosee details below

I have 7'10'' ceilings in my kitchen and living room... the entrance and family room have 18ft ceilings. what can I do to moke the ceilings look higher in the kitchen and lving room? Can you go up 12" in the middle of the room without effecting the floor joists of the room above ?

ALso, if I install hardwood floors, will that make the ceilings look lower?
