Should ceilings be painted white or should they be painted a color

I saw on a show one time that ceilings should never be white. Is this true?

ceilings should almost always be a bright white. ask the store where you purchase your ceiling paint to add 2 oz of white tint into a white base ceiling paint. this will cover better and look bright. dull ceilings take away from the beauty of a room. bright ceilings look more transparent and deeper and open. some say to paint the ceiling the same color as the walls but in my 28 yrs in the trade, only under rare circumstances does a ceiling look good with color. almost always id recommend a bright white.

From: Cindy

Since the vast majority of ceilings are white, I say there is nothing wrong with a white ceiling.

Colored ceilings are at the end of their trendiness. If you paint your ceiling a color in 2007, you're going to have to redo it in a couple of years. They're the faux finishes of the aughts. Avoid this awful trend.

i think it adds to your room. i am in the process of painting mine and i love it.. i say do what you love and forget the trends.. you will live longer!!

From: Barbara

i have to disagree, painting a cieling allows the cileing to become part of the room...ugh! white cielings......boring

From: sage

i painted mine the color of the walls .... for now, i only want white ceilings when crown moulding is installed, so until then they are tan. one thing to remember with color especially beiges; they will look dirty because of all of the light reflection. so i agree with the white ceiling.
