What color should I paint my LOW ceiling to make it appear higher

I have a very large bedroom-however- the ceiling is low
I am painting (ragging) the walls in a green tone. My question is-how do I disquise the ceiling to make it appear higher??? SHould I paint it stark white or a lighter shade of the wall color. I thought I had read somewhere that if you paint the ceiling white -it stops the color shrply-thus lowering the ceiling???

This answer doesn't address the color issue but does help make a ceiling taller than it appears.

My wife and I have moved around quite a bit before settling into a 100+ yr old home. We added a large 400sq/ft sunroom but were limited on the ceiling height.

We used a trick we loved to see in the older East side homes of Milwaukee. We dropped the trim line DOWN from the ceiling 2 to 3" around the rooms perimeter. This is NOT crown but a moulding that is athetically acceptable for your application.
You then tie the ceiling into this area by painting it the same color. The couple of inches dropped at the wall make the ceiling look like it wraps onto and up from the walls.

This has worked great for us, as we still get compliments.
