What causes ceilings to show dark areas where the rafters are?
I have repainted the ceilings and still after only two months the dark areas are back.They are showing up in every room in the house. How do I get rid of the problem. Thanks for any help!!!!

I had the same problem. What do you heat with? When the electric went off at our house we used camping lanterns for two days. The soot from the lanterns outlined every rafter.

It is caused by temp. transfer from exterior through the rafter. The cold causes condisation that will draw dust to it. A air exchanger may solve your problem or if your reside your home wrap with foil foam. Check your air filter on furnace.
